Christmas Presents | Haul

Is it normal that I am sad as well as happy that the holidays are over? Christmas and New Year’s Eve are a wonderful time and I always enjoy being around my family, but it’s also a really busy time to be honest. I had to go to several parties and in between those I had to study. Yes, you read that right, here in Belgium we have to study during the holiday break. We have a rather unpleasant system where the finals take place after our holiday break (hurray Belgium). So not that great of a time actually. An upper side about it is that we do have some time off afterwards.
That aside I do am glad about all the presents my family gave me. Here are all the gifts they got me.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
I am very excited to read this book. It’s highly praised by the book community and is named one of the best thrillers of 2015. So yeah, this will probably be my next read! It’s also being adapted into a movie with an amazing cast, so we have that to look forward to.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Also one of the best thrillers of recent years, so definitely a must-read. I have heard so many good things about this one that I just can’t get any more excited to read it. As people are calling The Girl on the Train the new Gone Girl must mean something, right.

Gone Girl
Yes again Gone Girl, because I also got the movie. Yet another reason to read the book, so I can go ahead and watch this one. I’ve heard many people say that Rosamund Pike is excellent, which also reflects in the amount of award nominations she got for her role as Amy. The trailer looked intriguing and definitely my cup of tea.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
The fact that Birdman had 9 Oscar nomination of which it won 4 (including Best Picture!) is enough to convince me. On top of that it has an outstanding cast and the trailer looked quite promising. It probably won’t take me long before I watch it.

Outlander – season 1
I must admit I haven’t read the book yet, but maybe some day I will get to it. Though that doesn’t mean I’ll wait to watch the tv adaptation. From what I’ve seen, it looks very good and I’ve heard many great things about it. Even my grandma has already watched it and she definitely loved it, since she couldn’t stop talking about it.

Modern Family – season 3, 4 and 5
Having watched the two previous seasons, I can tell you that I’m in love with this show. It’s hilarious and heartfelt at the same time. It’s down-to-earth and quite relatable actually. I definitely recommend it.

How I Met Your Mother – season 3 and 4
Again, an extremely amusing series with clever dialogue, loveable characters and interesting topics. I found it a great thing to watch between studying, since the episodes are only twenty minutes long. If you have never heard about this, you should check it out immediately. Seriously, go check it out, you will regret it if you don’t.

Exodus: Gods and Kings
This seems like a great movie. Even though it’s biblical story, it looks like an action-packed and epic story. With a cast, including Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul and Ben Kingsley, I can’t be anything else than interested.

Grey’s Anatomy – season 10
This is kind of my guilty pleasure, it’s not something I would normally watch, but this one just gets me attached with it’s characters and storylines. I am a bit delayed with this series, since I just got season 10 and I actually can’t believe it’s already up to season 12. So I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do.

Iron Man MugAnd I also got some other things as well. My parents gave me a large map of Europe with pins, so I can keep track of all the places I’ve travelled to. From my sister’s boyfriend I got an Iron Man mug that I immediately used as my TBR jar (or TBR mug in this case).

That’s it for this haul, I’m really excited about reading and watching all of these. Let me know if you’ve read or seen any of these and what gifts you found under your tree.
I’ll see you later!

  1. I know exactly what you mean about the holidays. Except for the studying part. Haha. Anyway. I’ve watched and rewatched How I Met Your Mother at least four times! You’ll definitely love it. Can’t wait for you to finish the entire series!

    1. Yeah, I got a bit behind on HIMYM :/ I watched the first two seasons and then just didn’t continue. But now that I got the next two, I’ll definitely pick it up again and try to finish it

  2. Hey Jonas 🙂 First of all, outstanding haul! I’m excited to read what you think of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. A lot of people compared them to each other but I found them really different in terms of style and concept. Hope you enjoy them both!
Second, this is probably an awkward time to say I haven’t watched HIMYM, which is weird because I devoured Friends, Big Bang Theory, and the likes XD I’ve seen a few episodes of it but I can’t get myself to watch all of it. I miss the original cast of Grey’s Anatomy, I sometimes watch the first few seasons when they were so young and clueless, lol.
Thanks for the follow by the way! 🙂

    1. I’m very excited about these as well and they are right on top of my TBR pile. Sad to hear you can’t seem to get into HIMYM, maybe you should give Modern Family a try (since that one is my favourite of the two 😬) I can understand your opinion about Grey’s Anatomy, but I do feel like the new characters also bring something fresh to the show. Although I do miss the old ones as well. Especially the dynamic between Lizzie and George.
And how could I not follow such an awesome blog?! 😄

      1. Is Modern Family a bit like Arrested Development or Parks and Rec? 🙂 I heard about it a lot and I know it won lots of awards for Best Comedy. I’d give that a try 🙂 and yeah that’s true what you said about Grey’s Anatomy, I guess it’s also a good thing that they keep adding new faces to the drama so it always seem fresh and they can add something new to the plot. Right now I watch How to Get Away With Murder, I think it was produced by Shonda Rhimes too 😀 have you seen it?

Aw and you are too kind *gives you cookies* Thank you!

      2. I haven’t seen Arrested Development, but I guess you can compare it a bit to Parks and Rec. It’s the same concept where they partially talk to the camera like it’s a documentary and it’s also hilarious. If you liked Parks and Rec, I would definitely recommend Modern Family (or at least to give it a try).
Oh man, HTGAWM was incredible! I’m really looking forward to season 2. Is it just me or is Shonda Rhimes amazing? I mean Grey’s Anatomy, HTGAWM and Scandal too, these are all great! (haven’t seen Private Practice though)

      3. oh you have to see Arrested Devt, especially the first 3 seasons, it’s so bizarre but it works!
I agree, she is such a GENIUS. I haven’t seen Scandal but it’s on my list of things to watch. I’m looking forward yet anxious to watch the rest of HTGAWM, the mid season finale left a lot hanging, as usual. I feel stressed out after each episode, lol.

      4. When I have some time, I may give it a go then. Scandal is really good and Kerry Washington is excellent. With HTGAWM you just don’t know what’s going to happen next and I find that great. You’re constantly surprised

  3. Hey!
Is it weird that I don’t actually own any tv series on DVD, But then I don’t watch TV a lot because I spend all my time reading.
You live in Belgium? That’s so awesome! I live in the UK by the way, but I always wanted to visit Belgium!
You will have to tell me your thought about Girl On The Train as I am a bit hesitant in buying it due to the mixed reviews, but I am definitely reading Gone Girl next month (I would try to fit it in this month but my schedule is kind of full!).

    1. It’s not at all weird! These days I think I’m the weird one, because I’m collecting the physical copies instead of just downloading or Netflix (or whatever people use nowadays 😁). Maybe that’s also because I live in Belgium and we don’t have all these awesome shows on television…
I will definitely let you know what my impressions were of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl as well.
By the way, you should absolutely visit Belgium sometime. We truly do have some amazing places/cities here!

      1. Hahahaha but nothing beats having a physical copy I think (or that’s what I tell myself to justify the amount of books I have.) Yeah I just know that I have to visit Belgium if just for the rumours I’ve heard about the delicious food.

      2. I always get asked why I collect them, but I just really like to have them on my shelf and watch them whenever I like so. Yup our food is delicious, our cities are beautiful and the people are welcoming.

  4. Aangezien het ook in het Nederlands kan ;). Ik moet ook ASAP Gone Girl en The Girl on The Train lezen! Zou het cool vinden moest je na het lezen even een review plaatsen van de twee boeken :). En god, die series! Toch wel een beetje jaloers als ik het mag zeggen. Veel lees en kijkplezier!
