That Summer Feeling

My last exam is coming up next week, so it’s the perfect time to start looking forward to the summer vacation. The good weather, traveling and loads of free time are things I’m in desperate need of. School has been extremely busy this year, as I just almost finished my first year in college, and I really need some time to catch up on sleep and all other sorts of things. In this post I’d like to take a look at all the things that I’m aspiring to read or watch this summer.

Yes Please – Amy Poehler
I’ve already started reading this quite a while ago, but I wasn’t able to continue reading due to having to read another book for school. Now that that’s over I’ll gladly reprise Yes Please. I’ve only read 36 pages (and the prologue) so far, but I was already really enjoying it. She’s hilarious and it’s fun to know she’s dealing with other people and situations.

Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
I think it’s about time that I read this one. Gone Girl has garnered a lot of critical acclaim and it has been lauded by readers, so I guess that’s the most important recommendation you can get. The fact that I liked The Girl on the Train so much and that it is being called ‘the new Gone Girl’ should say something, right? I’m really excited to read this one, or perhaps devour is a better word, and then I can finally watch the movie as well.

Kindred Spirits – Rainbow Rowell
I was a bit skeptical at first, because this isn’t something that I would normally read, but apparently it’s partly dealing with being a Star Wars-fan, so I’m totally up for that. It’s only 62 pages, so it probably won’t take me long to finish this.
I’ve won Kindred Spirits in a giveaway from Kat at Life and Other Disasters. Her blog just celebrated its 3rd year of blogging and she recently reached 600 followers. If you aren’t one of them, then you should change that right away.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I’m so far behind and I’ve been dodging spoilers ever since. I haven’t watched Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. since the show returned after its midseason break and that’s already more than ten episodes ago. That’s really unacceptable. Though now is the perfect time to catch up and get to see that amazing show again. I’m really glad that it got picked up for another season, because it really deserves it.

Arrow & The Flash
Talking about being behind on tv series. I’ve only watched the first season of Arrow and I haven’t gotten any further. That’s about to change. I bought both the first season of The Flash and all three seasons of Arrow. I’ve heard that The Flash is an amazing show and I really should watch it, but I wanted to hold off on that since it crosses over with Arrow and I hadn’t yet watched that much of that show. If I remember correctly, the first crossover happens at the beginning of season three of Arrow and the first episode of The Flash. So I’m definitely going to try and get to that point over the summer.

X-Men
I’m finally planning to watch the final X-Men-movies. The last one I watched was X-Men: First Class and there are still three more (including X-Men: Apocalypse which is now playing in theatres). I’m thinking of perhaps doing a marathon of the last trilogy, which is comprised of the aforementioned First Class and Apocalypse with X-Men: Days of Future Past in between those two. Then there’s only The Wolverine left, which I’ll watch whenever I’m in the mood for it.

Comics
I have a lot of comics laying around that I still haven’t read yet and I’ve also got some still being shipped to me right now. So I’m planning to read a large amount of comics this summer. I really enjoy reading comics and I’m just an enormous superhero-fan, if you hadn’t already noticed, so I’m really excited to finally get to them.
I’m well aware that reading a bunch of comics will affect my 2016 Reading Challenge on Goodreads (which has a redesigned homepage as of today) quite heavily, so I’m adding at least ten more books to that challenge in order to compensate that for a bit. The number now sits at 15 books, so I’m changing it to 25. Which I hope, I’ll be able to complete.

Other Things
Finally I want to work on my blog for a bit. I’ve recently had a really hard time getting my posts finished in time due to having so much work for school, but now that I no longer have to deal with that for a while, I can start writing posts in advance and being a bit better at involving myself in the community and commenting more on other blogger’s posts.
I’m putting some thought in my blog design. I know that I’ve done a redesign not that long ago, but I’m always trying to improve and, to be honest, I just get tired of these things quite quickly. So you can expect to see some changes over the next few weeks or months. My designs will probably be all over the place in my next few posts, but you can just ignore that as I’ll just be trying out some different ones.

There’s probably plenty of other things I’m going to be doing this summer, but these are the ones I can think of right now. I sincerely hope that I can do as most of these as I can, but we’ll see.
Let me know which of these I should get to first and tell me what you are going to read, watch or do in the summer (or what you have done, for those who are already back in school). While you’re at it, what do you think of the Goodreads redesign?
I’ll see you later!

  1. Hahaha you’ll be done with Kindred Spirits in a matter of minutes I bet! It’s super sweet and fun and it totally left me wanting more. Maybe it will give you a proper taste for Rainbow Rowell books!
Thank you so much for the kind words by the way!!!

    1. Yeah it certainly doesn’t look like it would take long haha I gave my sister Eleanor & Park for her birthday, so if I like this one I might give that a try 😁

      1. I’ve heard that from other people as well… but since we have it here at home, I might as well give it a try. If I’m liking this kind of book I’ll definitely try to pick up Fangirl as well 😁

  2. Go read Gone Girl as soon as you can.. You’ll be hitting yourself over the head why you waited so long to read this! I don’t have any special projects this summer, just continue my reading like I’m currently doing. Maybe get one or two weeks off work but that’s about it. Enjoy that special long vacation time while you can!

    1. I’ll definitely keep that in mind and read it as soon as possible haha Now it’s just hoping that I don’t have to redo any of my exams in august and then I can truly enjoy my vacation 😁
It’s too bad that you might have to work the entire summer, but then again with the Belgian weather you’ll never if it’ll be worth taking some time off haha 😂

  3. I know that feeling of having to catch up on so many things! I too need to read Gone Girl asap (although I’ve seen the movie already), definitely curious on your afterthoughts for it. Hope you’ll have a fun summer with all the free time you can get for reading novels, comics and watching shows/movies! 😀

    1. I seriously can’t count al the things I have to catch up on, it’s ridiculous!
I’ve heard so many great things about Gone Girl, that I’m super stoked to start reading it. I’ll definitely try to put some of my thoughts into a review so you can read it 😂

  4. Oooh! I need to read Gone Girl too. My friend said that it was good and according to her, it was a bit boring at first and YES! [I got so excited, sorry!] Arrow and The Flash are so amazing!!! You should totally watch the 2 more Dc shows: Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl because they’re doing a crossover of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and LoT! I’m so sorry! I got too excited!

    1. Yes exactly, I’m very strict with watching things like these in the right order, because 1) it’s meant to be watched like that and 2) you’ll almost definitely get spoiled. It’s the same thing with the Chicago-series, so far there are three of them that cross over all the time and there’s even a fourth series announced!

      1. 🙂 just beware though, if you decide to watch Legends of Tomorrow, still watch it in order because you will most definitely be spoiled. That series being a series is a spoiler by itself to be honest

  5. Since you’re a huge superhero comic fan, I’d like to kindly advise you to not watch arrow after Season 3 (I would say Season 2, but sadly you’ve already bought all three seasons). I’m saying this because, (kind of hard to explain without spoilers) let’s just say that after Season 2, Arrow gains so many inconsistencies in fighting, characters, plot etc., the characters with heaps of room for good character development basically get none, and by the second half of Season 3 and definitely Season 4, Arrow turns from an amazing, action-drama tv show into basically a romantic-drama with very little decent let alone good action and comic relevancy (and the director just frankly runs the show into the drain by making many bad choices).

I’ve heard many great things about Agents of Shield though, and The Flash is honestly getting better and better with every episode. I also loved reading Yes Please, Amy Poehler is just absolutely fabulous. I’ve always wanted to read Gone Girl since I’ve heard so many great things about it, but I get super paranoid and easily frightened with everything, and my imagination would likely take the mystery and prevent me from going to sleep for a week xD

    1. I’ve heard or rather read the same arguments a couple of times about how Arrow goes downhill as it progresses and I’m sad to hear that. I must say that I wasn’t blown away from the first season either (not that I didn’t like it or something, it just wasn’t the best show I’d ever seen). Though I did like it enough to keep watching and the fact that it crosses over with the other series is another reason to watch. Probably, knowing myself, I’ll just keep watching even if it gets worse and worse, until a certain point of course where I just can’t handle it anymore haha Perhaps I’ll then only watch the crossover episodes, but that’s something I’ll see when I get there.
For know I’m still having a tiny bit of hope that I won’t find it that bad (considering some other things that I do like and others don’t), but again I’ll only know it when I watch it so yeah, got my fingers crossed 😁

Oh yeah, for a real superhero fan, it’s a really good show. I know there are many that stopped watching the show during its first season already, but I can only say that it’s really gotten way better!
Amy Poehler is the absolute best! She was amazing in Parks & Recreation and, as I said, I’m really liking her book already 😄

  6. My friend (the one that reads too much) bought Kindred Spirits (just one) and received 30 of them, so she payed for one and got 30, haha!
I’m catching up with season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D now, so hard to follow series when school is taking over ones life…

    1. That’s exactly the same thing that happened to Kat! That’s the reason she organised the giveaway, so she could get rid of all those extra copies haha 😂
So true, I’m behind on almost everything. I’m even two episodes or so behind on Game of Thrones and it has been killing me 😱

  7. I really need to read Gone Girl AND The Girl on the Train. I think I will definitely love them — thrillers are some of my favorite kinds of books to read! And I LOVE your blog design! It’s so simple yet sleek. I’m a fan! 😉 But I totally understand wanting to redesign. I’ve done it waaaay too many times!

    1. I would definitely recommend The Girl on the Train and I’m excited to start reading Gone Girl!
Thanks, but yeah every now and then I get sick of how something looks and I want to change it. The design is probably staying like this for a while, but I’m just going to experiment with some new ones 🙂
