Listen To This | Vol IV

Listen To This is a series where I introduce you to some of my favourite songs at the moment. These are some of the songs that blew my mind, surprised me in some way or are just plainly awesome. I listen to these songs on repeat so often that I wonder how it’s even possible that I’m still not tired of hearing them. As I listen to music every single day and it’s a big part of my life, I feel like it’s important to let other people know some of these songs so they don’t miss out on greatness.

Say It – Flume ft. Tove Lo
I was kind of sad that Flume played at Rock Werchter, a large music festival in Belgium, on a different day than the one when I was there, but that doesn’t stop me from constantly playing his songs. There are quite a few songs on his second album Skin, which was released this year, that are worth mentioning, like Say It and Never Be Like You.

People – Youth Club
This upbeat and fun song by Youth Club is the excellent song for the summer season. In 2014 they released their debut EP called Colours and this song is already from their second one called BrothersBreathe is one of their other great songs.

This part is almost entirely comprised of winners or contenders of the BBC Sound-poll which was totally accidental and that could indicate that these are awesome artists.

A Head Full of Dreams.jpgUp & Up – Coldplay
I’m really liking the new sound of Coldplay. Since their previous album, they’ve gone for a bit of a calmer tone and it’s been working so far. This song is a great example of that new tone.
Though what’s probably the best thing about this song is its videoclip. That clip is done in such a good way with stunning visuals and is very amusing to watch. I also recommend Hymn For The Weekend, their song with Beyoncé, because it’s another great single from their latest album A Head Full of Dreams.

PhaseWeathered – Jack Garratt
One of my friends introduced me to this song and I’m glad that she did. I didn’t know him before that and I must admit that I haven’t listened to any of his other songs, though I should get to that as this song is really great. He apparently won the BBC Sound of 2016, so that should say something, right?
What’s so great about this song is that it starts out slow and builds up momentum towards the middle where it gets more energetic.

Death Row – Jimi Charles MoodyIslington
For some reason, every time I put on some music this is the song that I’ll start with. I don’t know why, but it has something that I really like.
The four songs on Islington are all great, so definitely check out those as well and especially Other Man.
I just recently found out about him and apparently he hasn’t been around for long either. As far as I can see he has only released five songs thus far. When he finally releases a full-length album, I’ll definitely be there to give it a try.

EasyFeels – Son Mieux
I can understand if you haven’t yet heard of Son Mieux. It’s a band from the Netherlands who only have three songs released, for now anyway. In 2015, they released Feels and Easy and in the beginning of this month their latest song came out called Even. Feels is probably my favourite one so far, but Even comes in as a close second.
I think they have a quite unique sound and it’s really enjoyable. They are definitely a band to look out for in the future.

I’m a daily user of Spotify and I couldn’t live without it. It’s super easy to keep track of all your favourite songs and artists, but also to discover new and unknown ones. That Discover Weekly-playlist is a gift from heaven and that may even be an understatement.

Ophelia – The Lumineersophelia-single-art---hi-res
The Lumineers are coming out with a new album this year called Cleopatra. Their first album was a great one and I think this one will be even better. The first single released from the album is Ophelia and I’ve been loving it ever since I first heard it. There’s something about this song that I always want to sing along and it makes me feel happy as well.
I unfortunately missed the tickets sale for their concert here in Belgium since it’s sold-out now, but I’ll definitely buy their album as soon as it comes out.

Way Down We GoWay Down We Go – Kaleo
I have already mentioned this song as my favourite one, for now, in the Get To Know Me tag. I wanted to include it here as well, because you really have to check it out. Seriously.
Kaleo is an Icelandic band who in early 2015 moved to the United States. They don’t have that many songs or at least not on Spotify, but I reckon they’ll release more in the future. Their song No Good is featured in the HBO tv series Vinyl.
