Most Anticipated of 2016 I | Movies

So 2016 has quietly begun and I think that now is the excellent time to start looking forward. More specifically: start looking forward to all the movies that are coming out this year. (My next post will be about books, I promise) I must say that it’s a long list. With long I mean seriously multiple pages long, which is why this post will be split up into two parts. According to IMDB, the go-to source of everything movie-related, there are more than 130 movies coming out and I reckon that that list isn’t even complete yet.
I’ll be sharing the top movies I’m excited about seeing in theatres (I’ve narrowed it down to about 20 movies, so still quite a lot). Just so you know, these are in no particular order and you can also click the title to watch the trailer.
Now let’s get started, shall we?

Captain America: Civil WarMay 6thCaptain America Civil War
Starting of with a no-brainer actually. I can’t really remember the amount of times I’ve watched the trailer for the new instalment in this trilogy. Needless that I’m very excited for this movie, because the trailer looks amazing and the premise is very interesting. It has almost the entire MCU in it and yet still feels like a Captain America story. I don’t know whether or not it’s a good thing they changed the story quite a bit from the comic it’s based upon, but that’s not a problem for me if the new story works as good. Needless to say that I will definitely see it when it comes out.

Finding Dory – June 17thFinding Dory
Anyone who didn’t like Dory in Finding Nemo can just leave right now, because I sincerely loved that character. She brought such a lighter tone to an otherwise sad story and often managed to make me laugh out loud. Ellen DeGeneres did a wonderful job voicing the character and now having a whole movie based around her seems well deserved. The trailer instantly brought me back to the first time I saw Finding Nemo. It brings a lot of the beloved characters back and introduces some new additions to the cast (who look amazing in the concept art here and here).

The Jungle Book – April 15thThe Jungle Book V
Disney is doing particularly well with it’s live action adaptations of their classic stories, so I’m guessing that this one might be great as well (and taking the amazing looking trailer into consideration I shouldn’t have any doubt about it). I’m still awaiting to see these animals talk, since we only get to see Scarlett Johansson as Kaa say some words. Though this movie has a stellar voice cast, including Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o. A talented cast indeed.
Take a few moments to watch the trailer and stare at this beautiful poster, because they’re definitely worth it!

Passengers – December 21st
There’s no trailer nor poster out yet for this sci-fi/romance movie, but the plot and cast are rather promising. The story is about a guy who wakes up 60 years too early in a spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet. Facing a lonely live and eventually death, he then wakes up another passenger to grow old together. They are portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. I think I’ve said enough to get excited about this one.

Suicide SquadSuicide SquadAugust 5th
Who would’ve known that we would be getting so many movies based on comics? And on top of that a movie where we should cheer for the bad guys? Honestly, I wouldn’t have guessed that, but since watching the trailer I can’t wait to go and see this. I still don’t really know a lot of these characters, but based on the trailer I think this is going to be awesome. And Jared Leto as the Joker? A genius move if you ask me. Sure Heath Ledger did a great job as the same character and can’t be replaced, but I think Jared Leto’s Joker is going to be different than that and still be great. Also seeing Viola Davis again is amazing!

Ghostbusters – July 15thGhostbusters
The latest instalment in the Ghostbusters-franchise features a new and all-female cast. I have to admit that I haven’t seen the original movies yet (yeah yeah, shame on me right?), but I am looking forward to this one. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are some of the most funny actresses out there right now and having them to be in a movie together must mean something good, right? There’s no trailer yet, but we’ll see how it turns out. (They have some great cast photos here and here)

ZootopiaZootopiaMarch 4th
Yes another Disney movie and yes another one about talking animals. So what? The animation is done well, the characters look great and the jokes are hilarious. Also the world-building in this movie seems pretty on point. Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin seem like great choices for the voices of the lead characters. The story itself seems quite interesting, since all these animals are living together happily and suddenly a few are going nuts and start threatening this peaceful society. I’m not sure if I will see it in theatres, but I’ll definitely try to watch it as soon as possible.

DeadpoolDeadpoolFebruary 12th
Is there really anything I have to say about this one? I mean it’s Deadpool, what can go wrong? (Aside from the version we got in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but we don’t talk about that anymore) Ryan Reynolds is back as the filthy-mouthed mercenary and it looks amazing. It seems as if he jumped right out of the comics. I have read a few and will be reading more of them soon as these are hilarious, but anyways. The marketing for this movie has been excellent so far and extremely funny as well. I am absolutely going to see this movie!

Warcraft: the BeginningJune 10thWarcraft
Are we finally getting a great movie adaptation of a popular video game? I sure hope so, because this one has an amazing trailer. The name of the movie is Warcraft: the Beginning, but everyone just calls it Warcraft so I’ll do that as well. It’s a bit too soon to call it the new Lord of the Rings, but it sure has a lot of the same components. Great and epic worlds, humans as well as other creatures and some supernatural elements, Warcraft has all of it and more. I have never played the actual game and am not planning to either (my apologies to people who do), but I’ll give the movie a try.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemNovember 18thFantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
It’s another movie set in the Wizarding World, do we even have to hesitate to go see this movie? It’s set in the wonderful world of Harry Potter, only seventy years before HP came into existence. This time it’s set in New York and follows Newt Scamander, who is portrayed by Eddie Redmayne. The trailer immediately gave me a kind of nostalgia to the HP-movies, so they already did a great job. I’m looking forward to being reintroduced to this amazing franchise and I’m hoping there will be even more movies after this one if it turns out great.

That’s it for the first part of my most anticipated movies of 2016. Are you as excited about these as I am? Expect the second part soon!
I’ll see you later!
